You hear it all the time – Always warm up before exercise. Sure, it’s very true but I’d go a step further an say “Always Loosen-up before you start your warm-up”. I’ve seen to many preventable injuries in sport generally caused by people not warming up properly or not warming up at all.
A good warm up should involve the whole body from head to toe and should consist of a series of light Dynamic exercises. The warm-up is to prepare the muscles, tendons, ligaments and the body in general for exercise in order to help prevent injury and to perform better in the session ahead.
It does not matter if your training session is at the Gym or at home you should still treat it with importance. The video below shows a simple way to loosen your body before you even start any warm-up exercises.
Sledgehammer Training for Ju Jitsu is an excellent exercise. It will help you put some extra power into your throws and takedowns. It can be performed to increase power with the ballistic type of effort required. It can also be performed as a great Cardiovascular exercise. If you have never performed Sledgehammer Training for Ju Jitsu, give it a go and see how it improves your technique.
Sledgehammer Training for Ju Jitsu is a tough exercise, start slowly and build up your intensity and work rate over time. There are many other exercises that can be performed with this tool and will really help you and your training, keep an eye on the posts here to see them over the next few days.
Body Squats come in many forms but even the basic exercise is very effective from many respects – It is a great exercise to strengthen the legs, it is a great way to burn fat and is a great Cardio Workout when you do higher numbers. Beware if you are new to Body Squats, too much too soon will result in pain, lots of pain so start slowly and build your numbers up slowly. See the video below to see Body Squats performed in their basic form.
After doing my own research on the availability of different Martial Arts in the area, I realised there is really not very much Ju Jitsu in Rugby Warwickshire, certainly not being advertised on the interent in any case. This opens a great opportunity for us. I’m originally from the town, in fact I grew up here and spent many years before moving to Calgary, Canada for 10 years. I have been training in Combative Arts for more than 30 years – Boxing, Karate and Ju Jitsu.
We have just opened our own Ju Jitsu in Rugby, Warwickshire. We teach a style that is very self defence orientated. It consists of very simple and very effective techniques that virtually all people can learn. The reason being Self Defence must be simple to be effective under pressure so all of our techniques consist of Gross Motor Skills, these are movements that all people are capable of performing.
Techniques we teach are used by Military and Policing Services throughout the world. It is essential they teach techniques which are practical and effective in a real situation.

MMA in Rugby Wark’s with Ju Jitsu. Our Art forms the basis of Karate, Judo and Aikido so consists of a range of striking techniques (punching and Kicking), an array of throws and take-downs, then a complete arsenal of Joint Manipulations – Chokes and hold-downs. I think it is fair to say that Ju Jitsu is the original mixed Martial Art. In fact it would be better described as the Mother of Martial Arts as so many other Arts were developed from it.
Come and take a look at what we have to offer in our sessions, try out a couple of lessons and see what you think for yourself before you even commit to joining us. There are no contracts, just one small monthly fee which you can stop at any time.
